Inadequate?

NEVER!

I saw a quote in a book recently that said this: “We are never inadequate because we always have a beyond all you can imagine God living in us.” –Holley Gerth

Such an optimistic statement that is! I love the thought of God erasing inadequacies I may feel so I can concentrate on my love for life and for those within it.

Holley Gerth goes on to share a prayer which I have paraphrased:

“God, when our to-do list feels long, and our day feels short remind us that all we have to do is what you would ask. Free us from unrealistic expectations, for taking on more than you would ever ask and for wearing ourselves out to prove our worth. Remind us we are NOT inadequate and whatever we offer day in and day out is more than enough when placed in your hands.”

Yes, God, I AM adequate. In your eyes I am MORE than adequate because I am made in your perfect image. That does not make me perfect, but it makes me blessed.

Thomas Merton was a Trappist Monk , writer and theologian.
