Am I Ready?

17 Jan

Yikes! Ready for what? A new year? A change in daily activities? Different weather patterns? Disappointments? Breaking news? A new recipe?

I have shared my Holly Gerth book in the past called WHAT’S TRUE ABOUT YOU. In the book, Gerth tries to bring awareness to thoughts that might pull us away from God and she tries on each page to reroute our thinking to things much higher and holier than what some of our thoughts actually might be.

The devotional page I recently read speaks of how we may not be ready for ordinary things in life that come to our daily doings, but God would have us be ready for anything asked of us.

We tend to think of all the reasons why our calling to do certain things can wait. But our timing is not God’s timing and vice versa. “I don’t have time,” often speaks to our key reason for not getting involved, perhaps in something God may be calling us to. Oops, does that mean I don’t have time for God?

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” –Philippians 1:6

That passage makes me think that I can be ready for anything –a project, a new job, a committee assignment, an illness, a family concern, a volunteer position and so on….

Because if I say, “Yes,” to any number of opportunities afforded me, God will be braving the path before I even take my first step.
