Shoes!

I love shoes. I have all kinds of shoes–sandals, slip-ons, flats, heels, tall boots, short booties, sneakers and so on! I have red shoes and blue shoes and gold shoes and floral print shoes and animal print shoes and black and brown and all variations of neutral colored shoes.

I like to mix them up so that sometimes the shoes are a surprise to the outfit I am wearing; such as wearing jeans with a white t-shirt and leopard flats. Or maybe I might wear black trousers with a print blouse and red shoes. Or I might wear a pretty dress with ankle boots–just because.

Shoes have a tricky side to them–especially women’s shoes. Sometimes they rub the toes in the wrong places or make the arch hurt after wearing them for a couple hours. Some shoes are wildly expensive (those are in someone else’s closet) and others, not so much. Some shoes are sensible and practical and others, not so much. Above all, shoes go on our feet so we can go about our day. No matter the shoe, they do help us walk our daily walk.

Shoes allow us to be the feet (and hands) of Jesus. Shoes help us to get out there and navigate whatever terrain may be underfoot. Shoes permit us to be protected from stepping on something harmful so we may push into the world and meet God’s people and their needs. Shoes might even help us run a faster race toward whatever goal we have set for the day.

I want to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I want to “show up” for my day. I want to have my actions and movements through the day be a blessing to others. And on some days I want to do all that wearing cute shoes.

“And how can men preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!” Romans 10:15
