Do you remember Erma Bombeck? I always thought her sense of humor was so fun. My mother thought so as well. A few years ago I went with some friends to see a one woman show on Miss Bombeck and all her funny sayings about life. It was a lot of laughs.
I also have a little book of hers called Eat Less Cottage Cheese and More Ice Cream.
I share some wisdom from her little book.
Early in the book she recalls that someone once asked her if she had her life to live over would she change anything. At first she said no, then she reconsidered with these pithy points:
“I would have washed and waxed less and listened more.”
“I would never have insisted that the car windows be rolled up because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.”
“I would have invited friends over even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.”
“I would have sat cross-legged on the lawn with my children not worrying about grass stains.”
“There would have been more I’m sorrys, I love yous and I’m listenings.”
God has similar wisdom in his book, particularly in Proverbs:
“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.“
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.“
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.“
“She considers a field and buys it…“
“She sets about her work vigorously…“
Bottom line–work hard, forget what others think, but make time for others and for yourself, worry less, think authentic thoughts, pray, seek simple joys, laugh and cry as needed, cherish little things, seize opportunities, look for life’s riches, stop and smell the roses and be more YOU!
Ha ha —Bombeck “theology.”
How true!!
