God has an App!

28 Jun

Years ago there was a saying that we often heard in advertising that stated, “There’s an app for that.”

This suggested to the consumer that the product was modern and cool and accessible through all manner of digital functions on our phones, tablets and computers. As most of us know APP is short for application which means we can apply a function related to the business to add to our lives. Availability of different apps often adds interest and ease to our existence.

I do not use very many apps. I have a pedometer app on my phone that I use when I take walks to fulfill my curiosity on mileage covered and steps accomplished. I have a weather app that tells me what the weather is doing in the city whose name I plug in. This is a pretty good function when I am planning to go somewhere and I want to know what to wear or even what to pack for a few days away. I also have an app for the place where I get haircuts. With this app I can tell them I am on my way without an appointment and they will put me on their list. The app tells me my approximate wait time before it is my turn in the chair. My kids utilize way more apps than I do as does my husband and I began thinking….I believe God has an app!

God’s app is hinted at by his constant availability through prayer. God’s app is prayer!

Consider this–

Prayer is readily available. We don’t have to click a button we just have to click on our willing heart.

Prayer makes life easier. Oh, problems do not disappear with prayer, but perspective grows and wisdom is gained.

Prayer is available to all. You don’t even need to purchase the app or sign up for the app, you simply have to open your heart and mind.

And prayer actually has two hidden functions. When you don’t know what to say or how to say it, but you still feel compelled to pray, the Holy Spirit will intercede and help you find the words for the message you wish to share with God. Another cool function of prayer is that you can do it for others and with others.

Prayer as an app is available to all and for all. Prayer is an anytime app. Oh by the way, there are actual prayer apps available to download. Like many apps, for me I sometimes download them and feel they do not do what I want so I delete them. If I go to the REAL prayer app–prayer–I am communicating directly with God.

Your blog today reminded me of a trip Jerry and I took a few years ago. Talk about a prayer app or in this case, application.
We were on a dirt road outside of Colorado Springs looking for a pond to fish that had been recommended by the local bait shop. We thought we were following his directions but soon ran out of dirt road and ended up amongst a herd of black angus cows in a really rutted pasture. We couldn’t turn around, so we kept on going up the hill. Soon we were in REALLY deep ruts and then we saw a farmer. He told us to keep going down the hill and we would come to better road! I started praying OUT LOUD and LOUDLY as we bounced over boulders and into ruts in our small suv. Eventually, praying all the way, we came to the better dirt road and my prayer ended with a LOUD “AMEN” from both of us. When Jerry tells the story he says I prayed us off that mountain. Talk about a PRAYER APP!!
