When I grew up we had a deep back yard that backed up to a natural area. At the base of the property were some evergreens and a Dogwood tree, but the thing I remember well was the row of fruit trees on the property. Of the row of trees I especially recall 4 of them –2 apple trees, a plum tree and a peach tree. I remember as a young girl marveling at the fruit growth as the summer months would tick by and I waited patiently for the harvest. I remember one summer the peach tree was so heavily laden with massive peaches that we had luscious pies into fall and then homemade canned peaches all winter long. That was a bountiful summer!
As an adult living in the western NY area, being close to Lakes Erie and Ontario, our apple season is a phenomenon. It is easy to pop into an orchard for ten minutes and have a bushel full. You also can time your visits by types of apples so that your favorites can be at hand easily. Presumably the most prolific trees have strong roots.
God would have us be that way–strong roots and and bearing fruit.
PSALM 1:1-3
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Let’s look at that last line…In all that he does he prospers? Most of us know that we sometimes don’t feel that. We know that we have desires of the heart that are not always met and that God’s plans are not ours; nor are they ours to understand. It is safe to say, though, that as our roots are planted in God’s love our strength grows as does our faithfulness. This I saw described in my Everyday Inspiration devotional book from Barbour Publishing:
“God’s life flows into us the way trees pull up water from the earth into their branches and leaves.”
The equation may well be that the more we seek God’s goodness, the more we have it in our lives to share with others.
My friends…trust in the Lord.

“God’s life flows into us the way trees pull up water from the earth into their branches and leaves.” —Isn’t this awesome?
Indeed!! Thanks for your inspirational thoughts!
Denise, such a great inspiration as we are planting and waiting patiently for the harvest. I love picking anything but especially apples. We bought our first if the season strawberries today. What a treat. My mom and dad always waited until October to pick Northern Spy’s. They are a large, juicy, very crisp apple and were my dad’s favorite. Mom kept them on a porch that was cool and perfect for preserving them. Your blog brought back all those sweet memories. Thanks!🙏🏻
Awesome! Memories sometimes are so special Anyone else have thoughts about “bearing fruit?” Thanks, Sue!
