The word believe is a great word. Dictionary.com defines the word like this:
“…accept (something) as true; feel sure of the truth of.“
I believe it will rain today.
I believe I should not have skipped breakfast.
I believe I better get some gas as the gauge in the car says E.
Those are simple images of belief.
Do you remember the old song from the 50’s called I Believe? The song is attributed to Frankie Laine and some of the lyrics are listed below:
I believe for every drop of rain that falls
A flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night
A candle glows
I believe for everyone that goes astray
Someone will come to show the way
I believe
I believe
A modern song of belief comes from Lauren Daigle whose partial lyrics can be read below:
I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up. Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am because I need to know!
Ooh-oh You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And you say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe (I)
Oh, I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe
If neither song lyric rings a bell no doubt, Google and/ or YouTube might be of some help.
The message in each song speaks of awareness, strength, growth and care from belief. The songs tell of the gifts that God bestows on us when we simply believe.
While it seems easier to believe simple things that we see and hear rather than things unseen, God tells us otherwise!
JOHN 20:29
Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
When I think of believing, I think of having strength, confidence, knowledge and wisdom and ability.
Believable! Believing makes me able!
