Someone Called?

30 Apr

Do you get many calls these days? I am referring to phone calls, not a text message, but a real call. I actually get far more texts than calls, but when I make a call or if I get a call, it is kind of an event. I spoke to a college friend recently. We had not chatted for a while so we had some catching up to do. We spent three hours together by phone. That day was an unusual one in that I received back to back calls from people I know! (as opposed to a telemarketer)

Three hours with one friend, ninety minutes with another friend and then a call from one of my brothers—that filled the day!

People often say they don’t answer the phone if they do not recognize the number. Some people say they don’t answer the phone if they do recognize the number. (ha ha) I think we are becoming a society that shuns phone calls because that is not the way we want to spend our time.

What about other calls? In what other ways have you been called? Has the Lord called you? Did you answer the call?

Aren’t we here to do more than just take up space? That is a variation of a question I spotted in one of my devotional books by Holley Gerth. She speaks of the amazing fact that we all have been called by God and that our days are significant no matter how mundane, and God would not want his call to be wasted. Gerth wants us to believe that every day has significance because God ordained it so. We. Have. Been. Called.

The book of Corinthians reinforces this idea–

“God is faithful: you were called by him into fellowship with his son, Jesus Christ.”

I think this means we better answer!
